My big toe has hurt for months. Blood tests are normal. What could I have and what kind of doc should I see?

My dad had gout, I think, so perhaps I inherited a tendency. My big toe is not swollen, red, hot or swollen. It has just been painful for months. It comes and goes. I’m 52 and female.

My toe hurts most when I bend it up or down.
Does anyone know what kind of doctor treats this problem, a podiatrist perhaps?
I just want to know what I have. I don’t want to go to a doctor simply to be told to take Aleve.
