I’m not sure that what I have is gout. Help?

I don’t remember hurting my toe in any way. It does not bother me at all as long as there is no pressure on it. I can bend it in all directions but it is uncomfortable. Definitely not bad enough to not be able to put on a sock. No alcohol lately…I am 37 weeks pregnant…maybe that has something to do with it?

What else could be causing my toe pain besides gout?

I believe I have been misdiagnosed with gout in my big toe after doing research. However, the toe still hurts, but it’s not red or swollen. Even hurts when I move it up/down; mildy squeeze; wear shoes with 11/2″ heals or walk a lot. Took 3 different meds for gout which hurt stomach, but toe never felt any better. My uric acid level that day was 10.9 which is why Dr gave me those meds.This has been a problem for over two years, so to me that’s one more reason it can’t be gout. before I go back to Dr, I would like some other help, please!

What will immediately stop the intense pain of a severe gout attack?

I sometimes get the most terrible pain in both of my feet, sometimes it is a sharp stabbing pain and sometimes it is dull.

It hurts most in the arch and in the ball of my feet, sometimes it feels like there is something in there. It feels like a hard mass not some soft growth. I also get pain in my big toe, not dull pain but really sharp pain sometimes and I often find that the pain hurts so bad it stops me falling asleep.

My arch hurts alot and sometimes the pain gets so bad it goes to my ankle. I have started researching gout and bone spurs, but gout seems to be more of a heat and tenderness problem in the big toe rather than lumps.

Could I have gout?

How do I know if I have gout or something else?

Some times we all have things going on with our bodies that cause us to think we have something wrong, it is easy to get worried. Here are a few things that may signal that you have gout, as always go to a Dr and explain your symptoms and ask him to run some tests.

Big Toe Pain
Big Toe Red and swollen
Big Toe is hot to the touch
Big toe is to tender to touch

You will notice that all these gout symptoms are to do with your big toe, that is because usually your big toe joint is where uric acid crystals will settle and cause the agony that is gout.

How do I know if I have gout?

Every 3 or 4 months my left foot gets really swollen and painful. I’ve been to the doctor about it before and he did a uric acid level test. This is meant to help them find out if I have gout or not.

The test came back saying that my uric acid levels were high that means it’s possible that I do have gout, but there was nothing the Dr could do because it hadn’t flared up at the time I was there visiting him.

So if the Dr can’t tell me how do I know if I have gout, even if my foot doesn’t get warm and red, and my big toe doesn’t hurt?

I do get the pain and MAJOR swelling that most people say is a sign of gout. The pain and swelling extends right the way to my shin.
