As soon as anyone finds out they have gout the first thing they ask is what is the latest treatment for gout?

Everyone thinks that having the latest greatest treatment will help them deal with their gouty arthritis. In fact most treatments for gout haven’t changed in years.

Your diet is a big part of how good or bad your gout attacks will be and you are totally in control of your diet and your lifestyle. Sure drugs can help but you must always be wondering do gout drugs stop working?

The answer is that everyones bodies are slightly different and some people will be able to pretty much eliminate their gout just be diet and a few pills once in a while. Other people will have to take medication forever and the worry is that over time they will lose their effectiveness.

In some ways we are lucky we have gout and not something that is totally out of our control, if you are ready to change your lifestyle then you are already ahead of the game where gout is concerned.

One morning i stretched and my muscle in my toe and leg tightened ALOT, and my toe hurt all that week, now its back, im not sure what it is. Ive had a pain at the begining of big toeEspecially at where it connects to foot on side, but its gotten worse, then better(but not much) when i slept with it raised. Could it be gout. The skin where it hurts is pink, but i think its just bruising. Long periods of inactivity usedto hurt, now it doesnt hurt unless i stretch or touch it. Help please!

I have had gout for about 10 years and at first the attacks didn’t come along very often. It seems as I have had it longer the attacks are getting worse and I am having them more often.

At the moment I take cholrcine which did work up until recently, now it doesnt seem to help as much if at all.

I have heard so much about cherries being helpful that I eat them daily, now I am worried that because I eat them so often they stop working as pain relief for gout.

I always try and be careful in what I eat and I don’t drink beer as I have been told that can contribute to gout. Does your body just get used to all the gout treatments and the cherries and eventually they stop being so effective?

He never drinks any alcohol and doesn’t eat any game food but people keep saying it is probably gout, so if it is gout what can we do to try and reduce the level of pain he has.

We are ready to try just about anything, changes in diet and lifestyle are fine, the pain is so bad that we are ready to give just about anything a try.

icatfishman asked:

This is not a throbbing pain and it is not related to toe nail. The discomfort is in the joint where my right toe joins my foot. Sometime when I am lying down it will hurt like hell for 10 seconds or so but mostly, it bends about 70% of what is normal and seems to have a bit of swelling. The swelling increases from time to time. Primarily, the feeling is stiffness.

I have bad an MRI on the toe and they have determined I do not have gout. The MRI shows alot of blood flow around the joint so they know that something is not correct. It has been surmised that I have some arthritis in the joint.

That is fine and all but it is not solving the problem which is limited mobility in the toe which has been going on for a couple of years now. I do not recall injuring the joint. Any ideas?

Ideas about relieving the discomfort and increasing the mobility are both helpful. I am aware of this condition almost all of the time which really ticks me off.

Thanks

I don’t remember hurting my toe in any way. It does not bother me at all as long as there is no pressure on it. I can bend it in all directions but it is uncomfortable. Definitely not bad enough to not be able to put on a sock. No alcohol lately…I am 37 weeks pregnant…maybe that has something to do with it?

John Mepham asked:

Could there be a nicer way of beating gout than by eating a couple of bowls of strawberries a day? They are, after all, one of the world’s most loved and delicious fruits. So is this idea, which is quite well known in the world of gout treatment, a myth or magic? What does the evidence amount to?

A GOUT POSITIVE NUTRITIONAL PROFILE

It is true that the nutritional profile of strawberries is positive for natural gout treatment. Probably the most important fact is their high Vitamin C content, around 59 mg per 100 grams of fruit. This puts them towards the top of the high-in-Vitamin C fruits’ tables. Way above cherries. They are moderately alkaline, alkaline neutral or just mildly acidic so their effect on the body’s pH amounts is not likely to be much, and may be mildly positive. They contain about 91% water, are low purine and moderate on the Glycemic Index. All these facts make them a good gout food.

And because their flavonoids amounts are high, their flavonoids-to-Vitamin C ratio is pretty good which means that their Vitamin C is likely to be better absorbed and thus have a stronger therapeutic effect.

Some studies have shown that Vitamin C does reduce uric acid levels, which makes Vitamin C for gout a good idea. In these studies the lowest amount required to do this was 500 mg daily. It’s not hard to get 500 mg of Vitamin C naturally from foods and drinks.

Strawberries’ flavonoids are anthocyanidins, flavan-3-ols and flavonols. Quercetin, which has been thought to reduce uric acid levels, is a flavonol. There is some Quercetin in strawberries.

Better known and researched are the anthocyanidins which have also been thought to reduce uric acid levels. Researchers have considered that it is the anthocyanidins in cherries for example, that may account for their uric acid lowering success in some small studies. The anthocyanidin profile of strawberries is not exactly the same as that of cherries, but sweet cherries and strawberries share a couple of them.

There is one more health positive fact about strawberries. Their proanthocyanidin (abbreviated as PCO’s or OPC’s) levels are high, much higher than in cherries.

STRAWBERRY TESTIMONIALS

If you’re looking for a natural gout remedy, and which gout sufferer isn’t, all this is very interesting, but are there any real world testimonials?

The most quoted historical character who advocated strawberries for gout was the Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778). He said that his strawberries-only diet had cured or alleviated his gout. Accounts vary as to what he precisely said, but there is no doubt that he thought strawberries were helpful, and in his time he was a famous and respected botanist. So he knew a lot about strawberries. But don’t eat a strawberries-only diet. This is a crash diet and crash diets are now thought to probably increase gout attacks. You can easily get strawberries into a low purine gout diet. Or into a carbohydrate restricted diet, such as the Zone diet, because they are moderate on the Glycemic Index.

Modern real world testimonials to the value of strawberries in gout treatment can be read on the Internet. And for pain alleviation too. Of course you can also read that strawberries had no effect.

It’s a pity that more isn’t known about strawberries for gout. But all these hints and signs, and in the case of Vitamin C for gout, studies too, do suggest that a daily bowl of strawberries is a good idea for a gout diet, especially when combined with other natural remedies for gout.

NB. Please always discuss gout remedies with your doctor or other health care professional, before implementing any treatment.

Most fruits and vegetables are high in potassium. Potassium regulates electrolytes in the body and has the ability to get rid of uric acid crystals from the blood. Potassium-rich fruits are bananas, avocados, apricots and cantaloupe. High-potassium vegetables include spinach, potatoes, asparagus, beets and pumpkin.

If you have gout along with any other illness , celiac disease for example, then you may need to check through all the foods we mention to ensure that they are gluten free products. Finding the right food can be difficult but it si one way to ensure that you are pain free so it really is worth it.

Purines are mostly found in foods which are high in protein and fat content. Vegetable oils, greasy burgers and fatty fish are all high in purines, so you should avoid fried foods and naturally fatty produce. Basically, high purine content is found in almost all kinds of food: pork, beef, chicken, turkey, salmon, tuna, oysters, scallops, creams, eggs, peas and beans. But there are ways to have a low-purine diet.

Drink several glasses of water everyday. 8-10 glasses daily is ideal. Water dilutes uric acid (a cause of gout) and rids them from the body. Cloudy urine means you have high acid content in your body and this is not a healthy sign. Clear urine suggests that you are properly hydrated and well on your way to good health.

Reduce calorie intake to maintain a healthy weight. However, avoid fad diets or very low calorie diets as rapid weight loss can precipitate gout.

Juice one small or half a medium-sized beet root, greens and all. Add a quarter bitter gourd, cut length-wise. This juice is very potent and should not be taken too frequently, especially if you are not accustomed to beet. Take it only once, or twice a week at the most.

Cherries and strawberries have shown to have a particular helpful effect on gout so these foods should be eaten every day on the anti-gout diet for the prevention of gout.

Excessive alcohol consumption increases uric acid levels in the blood since alcohol disrupts the disposal of uric acid from the body.

Diuretics, which are medications prescribed to help dispose of excess body fluids resulting from certain diseases like hypertension, edema, and other cardiovascular diseases.

Include lemon juice at lunch for cleansing. Lemon juice is filled with vitamin C and antioxidants to help flush your body from unwanted uric acids. Couple the drink with a hearty salad and meal using tofu to replace red meat or chicken, finely chopped fresh garlic and extra virgin olive oil.

A low-purine diet and medications are commonly used to treat gout. Purines are mostly found in foods which are high in protein and fat content. For breakfast, take low-fat protein foods. High-protein foods that are low in fat have been found to be safe.

Consume a moderate amount of protein. Limit meat, fish and poultry to 4 – 6 oz per day. Try other low-purine good protein foods such as low fat dairy products, tofu and eggs.

Zone dieting definitely works, people testify to that fact. Many have felt increased body and mind energy levels after only a week with it. Even those with existing medical conditions have seen an improvement in their physical wellbeing. This program is not a weight loss strategy, it is a health strategy. Watch the food you eat and watch the lifestyle you live. Do that, and better yet, let zone diet help do that for you.

msnglnk asked:

i get gouty attacks an have become use to them an know how to treat ‘em. back home (usa) everytime i got an attack my dr would give me “allopurinol” and some other med and sen me on my way. when i got my first attack in hina my gf went to the pharmacy and told them i had “the gout”. she came back with an “otc” called “colchicine tablets”. perhaps these are the same medss that my dr back home prescribed but each tab is 10mg. the tabs of the “other stuff” my dr presribed were 50mg. but being these ones (here) are an otc they probably had to make ‘em 10mg each.

this last attack was pretty bad. i was popping the colchicine tabs like pez but it seemed to have no affect. and i was drinkin water like a horse and that seemed to worsen the attack. i went to the er and the dr gave me an IV of glucose and an otc called “saridon”. which of course were both new treatments to me. he said in severe cases this treatment is needed.
i know gout is caused by elevated levels of “uric acid”; according to my blood test my uric acid level was “off the chart”.

i just don’t understand why the mass consumption of water worsened the attack. or maybe it just seemed that way. and why id a glucose IV work much better? its been a long time since my college chemistry class. but i know water is used to dilute acids. but maybe “suger water” works much better?

I believe I do have Gout, I hear that cherries is good to eat and cherry juice to drink as well, but I’m not sure what type of cherry juice does it have to be natural or??..
I read about Gout and it shows that it usually starts on your toes, well, mine did but I usually just get one swollen finger, Usually when you have arthritis doesn’t all you fingers swell? I always just get one of my fingers, not all at once. Like right now my middle finger is wselled like a plump sausauge. I have not been diagnosed for it but I have a feeling I do have it cause of my symptoms. Ill go to the Dr. as soon as my insurance kicks in, but for now any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated:)
First two answers were very informative, is it normal for me to have Gout? I’m only 34yrs old, when I read about it, it shows that women in thier 50’s are the ones it hits the most.. I’m still kinda young.
Again, any info would be appreciated:)

Raphael asked:

Gout is a chronic condition characterized by excessive levels of uric acid in your blood (hyperuricemia). As you know, this disease can cause excruciating pain. However, there is more than that, when gout left untreated, it can lead to serious complications. Those hardened crystals increasing and forming subcutaneous deposits surrounded by inflammatory cells. As the disease progresses, those builds up attack the joints and cause destruction of cartilage and bone. At this stage, you tend to feel pain in joints and kidneys at each movement; with a complete treatment, the disease will eventually lead to kidney failure. Once the kidney is affected, the pain becomes severe. From time to time, you can feel renal colic (a very excruciating abdominal pain). To prevent those serious problems, it is crucial to treat your gout in early stage. In this article, you will find diet and alternative therapies that can help you eradicate the gout without drugs:

Coffee – In your struggle with gout, you should not ignore the importance of regular use of coffee in your diet. According to a study by a group of researchers of Harvard University, people who drink much coffee have less risk of having gout than non drinkers. The risk of gout is 40% lower among those drinking 4 to 5 cups of coffee per day. However, it does not mean if you have gout you should drink coffee exaggeratedly; that can cause other health problems.

Fruits and vegetables - it is also shown in many medical studies that fruits and leafy green vegetables have preventive properties against the formation of gout and its symptoms. Some foods such as strawberries, cherries, red peppers, kale, cabbage, pineapple, mandarins and tomatoes are excellent foods against symptoms of gout. In addition, tofu and complex carbohydrates have a beneficial effect against gout. Along with an effective natural remedy, regular consumption of these foods can eradicate the disease without medication.

As you increase in your diet anti gout foods, you also need to eliminate those that rigger its symptoms. The following foods are highly discouraged:

Alcoholic beverages; Crustaceans (Crustacea) and certain sea foods, lobster, herring, trout and all fatty fishes; Conserved fish (sardines, mackerel, fish soup, anchovies, tuna, herring) Canned meats, fatty meats, red meats, etc. Mushrooms, brown bread, yeast, fermented milk and cheeses

Recommended foods:

Fresh eggs in moderation; Low fat milk and butter; Fruits including dried fruits Leafy green vegetables Cereals and white bread (moderately) Low fat ice cream; honey and jams; Unfermented cheese Rice and pasta Tofu and soy products

Along with this diet, it is strongly recommended that you drink at lot of fluids (water and fresh natural juice) daily to facilitate the elimination of the uric acid. In addition, you need a safe remedy that can help your body maintain healthy levels of uric acid to stop gout-causing urate crystals from forming. Thousands of gout sufferers have chosen our gout remedy and get relief. Now it’s your turn to cry victory over gout; visit vitalfoodstore.com, or click on the link in the resource box.

Depoetic asked:

I have numerous health difficulties. Diabetes puts me at risk for kidney damage/failure. I have had a gout attack in the past and Allopurinol caused migraines – resulting in Complex Migraine Syndrome which manifested in the temporary loss of motor function in my right hand.

Stopping Allopurinol stopped my migraines… yet now my uric acid level has skyrocketed to 11.6. I understand 2.3 is normal.

I am waiting until my doctor is available to me next week… and am currently in fantasticly hideous – all over body – pain that does not respond to prescription painkillers. …A common occurance for my Fibromyalsia.

All I know of Hyperuricemia is Gout.

Are there other possible complications due to high levels?
I already eliminated all imaginable foods with purines.
What now?

Thank you in advance.

Peace.
I (fortunately) am not currently experiencing a gout attack… but I will keep Celebrex in mind – I’ve been trying Ultram since my Diverticulosis won’t allow me to deal with opiates.

Peace!
Thanks dear ones – I am anaphylactic allergic to seafood – so I don’t consume any of those… and my urologist has forbidden me to consume cranberry juice because our local hard water plus high dose vitamin C are what are causing my large kidney stones. I do appreciate your suggestions, however.

Peace.
Thank you for the link George – it is WAY over my head – but I caught the problems with kidney failure and diabetic ketoacidosis… my Diabetes medication can permenantly damage kidneys – so the possibility of this being life threatening is there…

Not a friendly situation! (Ok, Father God… need YOU on this, Sir!)
Thanks Eds – That second link led me to a layman’s term link that made some sence. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-hyperuricemia.htm

I have a CD-ROM computer dictionary on Gout… this listing reminded me… so maybe I’ll dig it out and search it too!

I know the purine restrictions: no red meat, pork, turkey, organ meats, high fats, nightshade vegetables or full fat milk products.
Nightshades: (the only thing in life I’m not allergic to! ) Eggplant, asparagus, spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc.

I eliminated red meat, & pork years ago. I’m allergic to milk. I rarely eat organ meats. …all thats left is my veggies and turkey.

With my allergies and Diabetes – that leaves no other foods! Sheesh…
Thanks Isabella – I already drink MORE than 1/2 my body weight in water (ounces) to keep my kidney stones “floating” and not causing me pain. I’ve done that for years. …but thank you for the info!

Lisa McDowell asked:

Most people when choosing a gout friendly diet will look to cut out or reduce foods high in purine, as metabolizing purine in the body leads to increased levels of uric acid, which is the cause behind gout symptoms. However, high purine foods may not be the only foods to avoid with gout.

Some researchers have established a link between body acidity and gout. The more acidic your body is, the higher the possibility of developing gout. Conversely, having a more alkaline system encourages rapid uric acid elimination.

As the body becomes more acidic, uric acid elimination slows down dramatically. This is due to the pressure the body comes under trying to process both the uric acid and the acidic foods. The kidneys become strained and are less effective in expelling excess uric acid.

Acidity is measured using a pH value ranging between 0 – 14, with 0-6 being acidic, 7 is neutral and 8-14 is alkaline. Where gout is concerned it is less about the pH value of the food, rather what that food does to the pH level of the body during and after digestion.

The higher the pH levels of the body (an alkaline state) the easier it is for uric acid to be dissolved in the blood stream and eliminated via the kidneys. The lower the pH i.e. the more acidic the body pH the harder it is to process uric acid.

Therefore, a constantly low pH value can cause your body to decrease it’s processing of uric acid, leading to hyperuricemia.

Hyperuricemia is a medical term for a raised uric acid level in the blood, and can lead to gout. As the levels of uric acid become higher there is nowhere for any more uric acid to go, so it is deposited in crystal form in the spaces and connective tissues between the joints.

Usually gout strikes the big toe joint or one of the other joints in the foot or ankle, although it can rear its ugly head in any joint. The reason that gout occurs most commonly in the foot or ankle is because those joints furthest away from the heart and uric acid crystallizes in lower temperatures.

Uric acid is formed during the processing and breaking down of purines in the body. This is a natural substance that is produced during cellular building and is also found in a lot of the foods we eat. Purine-rich foods include:

Red meats

Shellfish

Legumes

Offal

Mushrooms

Yeast extracts

Processed meats

To tackle raised uric levels in the blood it is wise to restrict your intake of these foods until your gout is under control and uric acid levels have stabilized.

Acidic foods that impact the pH of your body are:

Beef

Lobster

Pheasant

Ice Cream

Processed Cheese

Barley

Processed Flour

Some Nuts

Soybean

Soda

Cocoa

Yeast

Hops

Table Salt

Sugar

Fried Food

Like anything, it is not a good idea to drastically change your diet overnight. The best way for your body to process the changes is to introduce amendments slowly that your body can get used to the different foods and keep its processing running on maximum.

You should be aiming to reduce your body’s pH level slowly. You can monitor these changes by purchasing a home urine or saliva testing kit. Try to balance your diet to include 70% of foods alkaline in nature and 30% acidic.

You can find out more about the natural ways to soothe gout symptoms on our web site.

By having a greater understanding of which foods to avoid with gout, you have a better chance of bringing your symptoms under control and preventing further gout flare-ups.

Low Jeremy asked:

A lot of people live in a world where food is abundant. The individual can have something western today and then have a little bit of Indian the following day. There is a health risk these days known as gout.

Gout is a type of rheumatoid arthritis. A lot of pain will be felt in the joints making the person less flexible.

This problem is often referred to as the “disease of kings” since it only affected members of royalty. Studies have shown this has now affected a lot of rich folk especially those who are obese.

Studies reveal that there are over 3.5 million Americans who have this problem which often occur after the age of 50. This is perhaps because of eating too much and the lack of physical activity.

People who eat a lot of beef, calamari, caviar, pork and poultry will begin to experience this problem because of the accumulation of uric acid in the bloodstream. Studies reveal this happens more often to those that are obese.

There is no known cure for doubt. In fact, there is no known cure for more than the 100 different types of arthritis. The best doctors can do is give medication that can be purchased over the counter or prescribe one if it is very severe to be able to alleviate the pain.

The most effective way to fight gout is to change one’s eating habits. This means cutting down on meat, poultry and certain sea foods and changing this with fruits, green vegetables, brown rice, cereals and bread. This is because these things contain vitamins and minerals which are needed to maintain a balance in the body.

Instead of consuming dairy products that are rich in fat, this should be replaced with those that are non fat. The individual should also drink plenty of water since this is known to ease the symptoms of gout and help the kidneys eliminate the surplus amount of uric acid in the system.

A dietitian can make a plan so the person can keep track of the food being consumed daily. It is also advisable for those who are obese to exercise to be able to lose weight since there is a high chance that someone overweight will also be diagnosed with this disease.

Gout can happen to anyone regardless of gender and ***. Taking the proper steps now by eating right and exercising can prevent this from happening.

Lisa McDowell asked:

The best diets for gout are those that can trim your waistline while keeping in mind that there are some foods that you must eat and others that you must avoid to help prevent a gout attack. You will need to dedicate yourself to gout “friendly” foods in portions that will allow you to shrink your waistline as well as build in enough time for the appropriate levels of activity.

The best diets for gout feature foods that are generally low in purines as these foods raise the body’s uric acid levels which can lead to a painful gout attack. Eating foods containing purines, as well as drinking excessive alcohol can cause uric acid to build up in the joints. Beer, specifically, is considered to be among the worst food choices for gout sufferers.

If you want to make sure that you’re following the ‘best’ diet for gout, then try putting the following tips into action:

- Make sure that you drink between two and three liters (around eight – 10 8-ounce glasses) of water every day. This is vital for diluting the uric acids that have been produced in your body and encouraging quicker elimination.

- Limit your intake of fat and fatty foods as they can encourage uric acid production in your body. Also this will help with weight loss.

- As already mentioned, it is important to avoid eating foods that are high in purine.

- Aim to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight. This will decrease your risk of a gout attack, make it easier to exercise, and give you more energy overall.

- Avoid fad diets and those that are high in protein, particularly animal protein. A high-protein diet can aggravate symptoms of gout.

- Low-fat dairy products and tofu are good substitutes for the nutrients you usually receive from meats and full fat dairy products.

Of course, after hearing about eating “low purines” so often in order to prevent gout, you might be wondering exactly what these mysterious purines are, and how to cut them from your diet.

Generally speaking, foods that are high in purines are organ meats, fatty meats, and shellfish. Specifically, foods very high in purines include sardines, mussels, sweetbreads, and yeast. More foods that are also high in purines are mutton, anchovies, bacon, scallops, and pheasant.

On the other hands, foods that are considered to be low in purines, and therefore are good to include in gout diet are: fruits, low fat dairy products, eggs and green vegetables. These also have the added benefit of being foods low in fat, with the exception of eggs. However, you can’t live off these ingredients alone.

A well balanced diet for gout sufferers should be low in saturated fats and higher in complex carbohydrates, which are useful for gout prevention and give you a feeling of “fullness”. They can also be good for keeping your body weight down as long as you watch your portion sizes. Even better, they’re generally high in minerals, vitamins, and fiber.

Add foods such as cereals, rice, and pasta to your gout diet, and include foods with unsaturated fats that may be good for your uric acid levels. Unsaturated fats can be found in olive oil, nuts and avocados.

Now that you understand what goes into the best diets for gout, you’re ready to create your own and get it started.

Which food to eat with gout isn’t hard to figure out once you realize what the causes of your gout are. From there you can easily formulate a gout diet that works for you. Here, you will learn the causes of gout, food to avoid with gout, and, food to eat with gout. You can then work out the gout diet that works best for you.

Gout is caused by the build-up of uric acid crystals in your joints and tendons. They are formed out of excess uric acid, which is a byproduct of the breakdown of naturally occurring ‘purines’ in your body’s cells and in some of your food. Purines are chemical compounds which your body needs to convert food to energy, and, genes to protein among other things.

It can be seen then that, as a gout victim, if you can reduce the purine levels in your food, you can reduce uric acid and therefore the likelihood of uric acid crystals forming.

So first, which food not to eat with gout? These are foods with high levels of purines, such as; anchovies, bouillon, brains, broth, consomme, dried legumes, fish, goose, gravy, heart, herring, kidneys, liver, mackerel, red meat, meat extracts, mincemeat, mussels, partridge, poultry (especially turkey), roe, sardines, scallops, shellfish, shrimps, sweetbreads, baker’s yeast, brewer’s yeast, yeast extracts. And you must avoid alcohol, especially beer.

And which food to eat with gout? Foods you can eat with gout are; low fat dairy products, vegetables (but not mushrooms, cauliflower, or, asparagus), complex carbohydrates (e.g. bread, cereals, pasta, rice, etc.), essential fatty acids (e.g. tuna, salmon, etc.), high vitamin C foods (e.g. potatoes, red cabbage, red peppers, etc.), fresh fruit (especially cherries, strawberries and other blue / red fruit.

All of the above will help to bring gout relief. But as well as relief from the pain, you need to prevent gout returning. Did you know that frequently recurring gout attacks can lead to you having permanently damaged joints, and, possible kidney problems including kidney stones? So, while you need to get rid of the symptoms of gout fast, you also need to find a remedy that will prevent your gout returning.

Fortunately, there is an online gout report that shows you exactly how to do this using totally natural ingredients and techniques that you do from home, without any costly drugs or nasty side effects. It is based on fully-researched and proven techniques and has already helped thousands of gout victims around the world. Plus, for those of you suffering in agony right now, there is a special 2 hour gout pain relief program included.

To discover how this guaranteed research-based report can help you get gout pain relief in 2 hours and prevent your gout returning, go to http://gout-relief-today.blogspot.com and start on your natural home remedy program in minutes.

peterhutch asked:

Gout is a form of arthritis that’s characterized by sudden, severe attacks of pain, redness and tenderness in joints. The cause of gout is a high blood level of uric acid (hyperuricemia), which can accumulate in joints and lead to inflammation. Uric acid is a waste product formed from the breakdown of purines — substances which are found naturally in your body as well as in certain foods.

Gout caused due to Uric Acid Crystals

One of main causes of gout is the formation of uric acid crystals in the joints, skin, and kidneys. Uric acid is an end product of the body’s chemical processes. Those affected by gout have a higher level of uric acid in the blood than the normal, due either to formation of increased amounts or reduced amounts of acid being passed out by the kidneys in the urine. This uric acid usually remains dissolved in the blood. But when the blood becomes too full of it, the uric acid forms needle-shaped crystals in the joints which bring about attacks of gout.

Diet for Gout:

After the acute symptoms of gout have subsided, the patient may adopt an all-fruit diet for further three or four days. In this regime, he should have three meals a day of juicy fruits such as grapes, apples, pears, peaches, oranges anpineapples.

Drink plenty of fluids. Fluids can help remove uric acid from the body. However, limit consumption of sugar-sweetened soft drinks, which have been linked to an increased risk of gout.

Maintain a healthy weight. Excess weight puts more stress on your joints and increases the risk of hyperuricemia and gout.

Apple Cider Vinegar : 1 x tablespoon mixed with a table spoon of filtered water, make sure it is organic with “Mother” still in it , add honey to taste and take about an hour after a meal 3 times a day..this will regulate your pH levels and reduce them…clean your teeth also after using this as it stains..then after an attack reduce this to once a day.

Medical Treatment

Allupurinol – this is most popularly known as the brand Zylprim and is prescribed to lower uric acid levels by controlling the system that creates the substance in the body. This is more helpful for preventing gout, instead of treating attacks.

Probenecid – sold as Probalan or Benemid, this is usually prescribed for gouty arthritis and chronic gout. It is also helpful in preventing gout attacks rather than treating actually occurrences. The medicine helps the kidneys eliminate more uric acid out of the body.

Colbenemid – sold as Proben-C or Col-Probenecid, this medicine treats gout direcly and also lowers uric acid. This drug contains Colchicine and Probenecid.

For the long-term, you may be advised to take moderated daily doses of either NSAIDs or oral colchicine to stave off future attacks. To reduce uric acid levels, tophi formation, and sudden attacks, allopurinol or probenecid may be prescribed.

Proper treatment may allow you to control gout symptoms and live normally. It will work better if you also undergo physical exercise and alter your dietary patterns to reduce uric acid levels.

Juliet Cohen asked:

Gout is a common, painful form of arthritis. Gout is a condition in which the body has a problem in the handling of uric acid. Uric acid is a waste product that naturally occurs in the body. It is normally flushed from the body by the kidneys through urine. It causes swollen, red, hot and stiff joints. Gout occurs when uric acid builds up in your blood. Men are more likely to get gout than women are, but women become increasingly susceptible to gout after menopause. Gout usually attacks the big toe however, it also can affect other joints such as the ankle, heel, instep, knee, wrist, elbow, fingers, and spine.

In some cases, the condition may appear in the joints of small toes that have become immobile due to impact injury earlier in life, causing poor blood circulation that leads to gout. It occurs more frequently in countries that have a high standard of living. Approximately one million people in the United States suffer from attacks of gout. Gout affects up to 500,000 Canadians. Men who develop gout usually do so between the ages of 30 and 50. Women are more likely to develop gout after the age of 60. The most common type of medicine used to treat an acute attack of gout is nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

These drugs help reduce the pain and swelling of joints and decrease stiffness. If you think that diet acts as a trigger for your gout attacks, changing your diet may help, but it is important to talk to your healthcare provider about choosing the right diet for you. Gout diet prevention consists of a prevention diet low purine or modified purine diet may help gout improve. Gout diet prevention puts and emphasis on dairy products, vegetable protein and water intake and a decrease in high purine foods. A low-purine gout diet is often prescribed for individuals with gout. Purine is a compound that is mainly found in animal protein which is metabolized to uric acid in the body.

A low-purine diet and medications are commonly used to treat gout. Purines are mostly found in foods which are high in protein and fat content. For breakfast, take low-fat protein foods. High-protein foods that are low in fat have been found to be safe. Include lemon juice at lunch for cleansing. Lemon juice is filled with vitamin C and antioxidants to help flush your body from unwanted uric acids. Grilled or baked lean meat, wrapped foil to retain moisture, is ideal for dinner. Pair with potatoes and steamed spinach. After dinners make sure to have a bowl of cherries, berries or grapes on the side.

submit111@gmail.com asked:

If you are looking for an anti gout diet then you are most probably looking into preventing gout for life. This is not such an impossible task. Diet does play a large role in controlling and preventing gout, so depending on your daily intake, you can either increase or reduce your risk of gout.

A gout may be acquired since birth, from family history or caused by obesity and other health factors. It is also more prevalent among men and those who are 40 to 60 years of age. If you can relate to any of these then you may want to focus on preventive measures.

First of all, an anti gout diet consists of low-purine foods.

But there are ways to have a low-purine diet and are illustrated below:

Incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet.

Begin your anti gout diet now.

Prepare low-fat protein foods for breakfast. For example, drink low-fat milk and utilize only egg whites when cooking. Add onions and garlic for taste and use low-fat butter or margarine. High-protein foods that are low in fat have been found to be safe. Quench your thirst with vegetable juice or concentrated blackberry juice.

Lemon juice are known for its cleansing components. Incorporate it into your lunch. Lemon juice is filled with vitamin C and antioxidants to help flush your body from unwanted uric acids. Couple the drink with a hearty salad and meal using tofu to replace red meat or chicken, finely chopped fresh garlic and extra virgin olive oil.

Grilled or baked lean meat, wrapped foil to retain moisture, is ideal for dinner. Pair with potatoes and steamed spinach. After dinners make sure to have a bowl of cherries, berries or grapes on the side.

More tips for your anti gout diet:

Watch your weight. Gout has been linked with health problems such as diabetes and obesity. Slowly restrict calories by introducing more of the gout preventing foods mentioned earlier. Avoid crash diets as these can actually trigger gout flare-ups. A good anti gout diet is always a balanced diet.

Jon Cielo asked:

Looking for a low purine diet to defeat gout? Then you’ve made an important first step towards getting rid of your gout. A low purine diet is essential for gout victims looking to prevent recurring gout attacks, which can leave you with permanent joint damage. Discover just what effect ‘purines’ have on gout, and, what foods make up a low purine diet.

Gout is caused by too much uric acid in your bloodstream. When there is too much acid, it can build up in your joints (in most cases in your toes and feet) in the form of needle-like crystals that cause swelling, stiffness, heat, inflammation and excruciating gout pain.

But, uric acid is a natural byproduct of the breakdown of ‘purines’ in your body. These occur naturally in our bodies and some foods and have a vital role to play. For example, they convert genes to protein and food to energy among. Since purines occur in much of our most favorite foods, they can cause real problems for gout sufferers like yourself.

So if you’re currently suffering from excruciating gout you just cannot afford to continue eating these purine-rich food. You’ll need to avoid things like; red meats, offal, poultry (especially turkey), shellfish, some fish (e.g. sardines, mackerel, herring), peas, lentils, etc. And you must cut-out alcohol, especially beer.

So what constitutes a low purine gout diet? Basically anything that isn’t high in purines. Here are some low purine gout foods: Low-fat dairy products, high-vitamin C foods, complex carbohydrates (e.g. breads, cereals, pasta, rice, etc.), essential fatty acids (e.g. tuna, salmon, seeds), vegetables (except those mentioned above), cherries, strawberries, blueberries, grapes.

Of necessity the list of foods above to make an effective low purine gout diet and the high purine foods to avoid are summarized.

In addition, gout is a rather complex subject and important as diet is there are many other issues that impact your gout and your ability to overcome it and prevent it recurring. And if you’re suffering severe gout pains right now, the above diet for gout won’t give you relief fast enough.

So you need to address all these issues as part of your overall gout remedy strategy as well as looking for short term relief from gout. It’s a lot of work but worth it to get a remedy that’s right for you.

Luckily, there is a fully-researched and proven online gout report that you can get your hands on in minutes, where all the work has already been done for you.

Its easy, step-by-step approach will lead you to a guaranteed, totally natural, home-based remedy that works for thousands of people around the world. And it includes a special 2 hour gout relief program for folks suffering acute gout pain right now. If this is you or a loved one then this could be just what you need.

If you want to get gout pain relief in 2 hours, plus, prevent your gout returning in the future, then go to http://gout-relief-today.blogspot.com and discover how you can quickly do both using completely natural means.

John Mepham asked:

This is the second article of a series about this diet. Please see Natural Gout Treatment – The Rules Of A Gout Diet That Had A Lot Of Success, for the first article.

This study, based on the Zone diet, did have a positive effect on markers of insulin resistance: triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol (“bad” cholesterol) fell. HDL cholesterol (“good” cholesterol) did not fall. But my purpose in this article is mainly to describe its direct effect on uric acid levels and gout attacks.

After four months on this diet the effects on uric acid levels and gout attacks were quite impressive.

Weight loss and uric acid levels Weight loss over the period was almost 17lbs (7.7kg) i.e. at a rate of about 1lb a week. All but one of the patients lost weight. The median uric acid (UA) fall was 1.7mg/dL.Another very interesting finding was that a more elevated blood uric acid level at the start of the study, meant a large fall of blood uric acid by the end of it. Uric acid levels normalised in 7 of 12 patients who had raised levels of uric acid (UA) before the study.

One participant did not have a raised UA level before the start. It was about 5.9mg/dL. But we already know that gout can occur in people with normal uric acid levels, so this was not unusual.

And gout attacks? Results overall were expressed as a median. Before the study, participants had at least two attacks in the preceding four months. Median monthly attacks before the study were 2.1. After it, attacks fell to 0.6. The fall in the number of gout attacks occurred in all except one patient. The exception participant had shorter and less severe attacks. Eight of the 13 did not have a gout attack during the four month study period, although as mentioned, they had all had at least two in the previous four months and, as noted above, the median was 2.1 a month, or one attack a fortnight, (every two weeks).

AFTER ONE YEAR

About a year later, five of nine patients had no more gout attacks and three had just one attack. So there was a further decrease in attack frequency overall. One patient gained weight after the end of the study. He must have given up on the diet. He suffered three attacks over three months. His blood uric acid levels rose with his weight.

Note especially that the mean uric acid (UA) fall was 1.7mg/dL. In a couple of cases it fell by

2.2 mg/dL and by 2.5mg/dL respectively. Hyperuricemia, (excess uric acid), which may lead to gout, is reckoned to exist if the UA levels exceed 7.2 mg/dL (men), and 6.0 mg/dL (women). The usual UA target in gout treatment is 6.0 mg/dL (somewhat less in women) because at this level the MSU crystals, formed mainly from uric acid may dissolve. (It is the immune system’s response to these crystals, which it regards as foreign bodies, which causes the pain and inflammation of gout).

So a fall of 1.7 mg/dL, given these numbers, is quite significant, although you should note that many gout sufferers have UA levels much higher than 7.2 mg/dL, and some gout sufferers do not have excess uric acid.

Were the study patients taking long term medications, such as Allopurinol, for their gout? They were not. They were only taking medications for gout attacks. The study report did not say how much water they drank. Most gout sufferers know that drinking lots of water helps to remove uric acid.

In gout treatment there are always caveats. The study was small. Only 13 male gout sufferers. The study lasted just four months, although there were follow-up results after one year (median).

The researchers noted a connection between weight loss and a fall in uric acid levels in another study and expected the nutrient proportions (40:30:30) contributed to the uric acid fall. They thought that the dietary measures caused the desired improvement in insulin sensitivity.

The results were sufficiently impressive to give hope and encouragement to any gout sufferer who tries this diet as accurately as possible.

The study was conducted in 1999. Unfortunately it has not been followed up by a much larger one designed on the same lines. If conducted, such a study would expand our knowledge of natural gout treatment, perhaps considerably. A natural gout cure is what most gout sufferers want.

The study can be found online if you search “Beneficial effects of weight loss associated with moderate calorie/carbohydrate restriction, and increased proportional intake of protein and unsaturated fat on serum urate and lipoprotein levels in gout: a pilot study.” Copy and paste this into a search engine search box and hit enter.

In the study report, uric acid levels were expressed as mmol/l. In this article I have converted these mmol/l numbers to mg/dL, which is a more frequently used measurement.

NB. The contents of this article contain medical information not medical advice. Please always discuss remedies with your doctor or other health care professional before implementing any treatment.

Drugs aren’t helping and I’m hoping there is something natural to help relieve his pain until he can get a bit better. I read in a forum that Apple Cidar vinegar helps, but he tried it and it made it a lot worse. Any suggestions are appreciated. Anyone who has suffered from gout would understand what kind of pain it is, and his is very severe. Thanks
He’s tried Allopurinal and it only made him worse. At this stage a diet isn’t more a long term option but we’re looking for something to help him ASAP.

Lisa McDowell asked:

A gout diet plan is an important part of controlling your gout symptoms and attacks. After all, when not controlled, gout can cause severe and permanent damage to your tissues, joints, and tendons.

As gout is caused by high levels of uric acid in the blood, a proper gout diet plan should aim to reduce uric acid levels and encourage proper elimination of uric acid from the body.

There are five main points that you need to remember in order to maintain a good gout diet plan. These are:

- Minimizing the number of foods high in purines. These include, primarily, meat, beer, and seafood.

- Maintaining a healthy body mass by eating a very healthy diet high in nutrients.

- Eating dairy products that are low in fat, to help to lower the risk of gout flare-ups.

- Drinking lots of water and clear liquids. The better you hydrate your body, the more prepared it will be to flush uric acid away.

- Eating more complex carbohydrates and fewer refined carbohydrates.

Now that you know the main rules for planning a quality gout diet plan, you are prepared to speak to your doctor or a registered dietician about your healthy daily caloric intake and nutritional requirements, as well as the right foods to keep your diet properly balanced while still abiding by these five primary rules.

Dr. Hyon K. Choi published a study in the New England Journal of Medicine’s March 11, 2004 issue. It discussed the importance of a low-purine, low-protein diet for decreasing the chances of crystal formation in the joints from uric acid in the body. Dr. Choi’s study examined a group of over forty seven thousand men over a twelve year period. These men had no prior history of gout, but by the end of the twelve years, 730 of them had been diagnosed with gout.

Through this study, it was discovered that those who eat large amounts of meat are 40 percent more likely to develop gout. Furthermore, those who eat large amounts of seafood are 50 percent more likely to develop gout.

Foods that were shown not to increase the risk of gout included:

- Beans

- Peas

- Mushrooms

- Spinach

- Cauliflower

Even though those foods are high in purines, they are low in protein. Choi has shown that it is a high-purine, high-protein combination that may be the true contributor to gout and not just the purines alone. It is also now suspected that gout and cardiovascular disease may also be linked, as the diets connected to gout are the same as those connected to heart and circulatory problems.

Foods high in purines and proteins and which should be avoided include:

- Herring

- Mussels

- Hearts

- Yeast

- Sardines

- Smelt

- Sweetbreads

- Anchovies

- Bacon

- Liver

- Grouse

- Veal

- Mutton

- Turkey

- Salmon

- Kidneys

- Trout

- Goose

- Partridge

- Haddock

- Scallops

- pheasant

By eliminating such foods from your diet and following the five important tips for creating a gout diet plan, you will be helping your body to take control of your gout.

Groshan Fabiola asked:

Gout is a type of arthritis that causes recurrent joint pain, inflammation and swelling. Although the symptoms of gout are usually perceived in the lower regions of the body (big toe, heels, ankles, knees), they can occur in regions of the upper body as well (shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers). Statistics indicate that gout affects around 3.5 million people in the United States. Gout is commonly seen in people with ages over 50, rarely affecting young adults and children. Although gout can occur in both genders, the disease has the highest incidence in men.

The main cause of gout is the accumulation and deposition of uric crystals at the level of the joints and adjacent soft tissues. Uric acid is a waste product that results from purine metabolism. Most cases of gout occur due to under-excretion of uric acid on the premises of kidney dysfunctions. However, the intake of purine-rich foods greatly contributes to the development of gout as well. Thus, food regimens considerably influence the occurrence and the progression of the disease.

Corroborated with an appropriate medical treatment, a healthy diet can reverse the undesirable effects of gout, also minimizing the risk of relapse. Due to the pronounced chronic character of the disease, gout sufferers require ongoing treatment and need to respect a correct long-term food regimen. It is important to note that that gout diets alone can’t overcome the disease completely. In order to achieve a complete recovery, people affected by gout also need to make lifestyle improvements. If necessary, gout sufferers should take measures in losing weight, getting more physical exercise and reducing stressful conditions.

Gout diets work on multiple levels. Their main goals are to lower serum uric acid levels and to reduce the dietary intake of purines. In order to reduce serum uric acid levels, gout sufferers need to help their organism excrete this substance from their system. People with gout should drink at least two liters of pure water or unsweetened, non-alcoholic beverages each day.

In order to prevent the accumulation of uric crystals inside the body, gout sufferers are advised to limit the intake of foods that contain high levels of purine. A gout diet should completely exclude organ meats (heart, liver, kidneys), and seafood (shrimps, mussels), as they are very rich in purines. Try to replace these foods with small portions of boiled, steamed, grilled or roasted white meat. It is essential to avoid frying your meals, as greasy foods are not well tolerated by people who suffer from gout. Gout sufferers should also limit their intake of simple carbohydrates (sweets), as they also facilitate the progression of the disease.

A gout diet should contain complex carbohydrates (potatoes, rice, whole cereal products, pasta), green vegetables and fresh fruits. Low-fat dairy products such as skim-milk and light yogurt can be safely included in any gout diet. By drinking two glasses of skim-milk each day, one can greatly reduce the frequency and the intensity of gout attacks. Low-fat dairy products can normalize serum uric acid concentration and thus they are recommended to all people affected by gout.

Even hurts when I move it up/down; mildy squeeze; wear shoes with 11/2″ heals or walk a lot. Took 3 different meds for gout which hurt stomach, but toe never felt any better. My uric acid level that day was 10.9 which is why Dr gave me those meds. This has been a problem for over two years, so to me that’s one more reason it can’t be gout. before I go back to Dr, I would like some other help, please!

Jon Cielo asked:

A low purine gout diet can indeed work wonders for gout sufferers. Here you’ll discover just what impact ‘purines’ have on your gout, and, how a low purine gout diet is fundamental in helping prevent your gout coming back time and again. Constant bouts of recurring gout can end up giving you permanent damage to your joints. So a low purine diet is an essential starting point for a preventative remedy…

Firstly, gout is caused by too much uric acid in your bloodstream. When there is too much acid, it can build up in your joints (in most cases in your toes and feet) in the form of needle-like crystals that cause swelling, stiffness, heat, inflammation and excruciating gout pain.

At the root of gout is too much uric acid in your blood which then deposits in crystal form in your joints causing agonising gout. But uric acid doesn’t just suddenly appear from nowhere, it’s formed when ‘purines’ breakdown in our bodies after carrying out their important work of converting food to energy and genes to proteins. Purines are chemical compounds that appear naturally in our body cells and in much of our foods.

So what constitutes a low purine gout diet? Basically anything that isn’t high in purines. Here are some low purine gout foods: Low-fat dairy products, high-vitamin C foods, complex carbohydrates (e.g. breads, cereals, pasta, rice, etc.), essential fatty acids (e.g. tuna, salmon, seeds), vegetables (except those mentioned above), cherries, strawberries, blueberries, grapes.

If you’re a gout sufferer, eating purine-enriched foods only makes your gout worse. Here is a list of high purine gout foods to avoid; red meat, game, offal-type foods, gravy, poultry, shellfish, mackerel, herrings, sardines, anchovies, fish roe, beans, peas, lentils, asparagus, mushrooms, yeast. And of course you must avoid alcohol. Beer is especially bad.

So that’s the diet part of your gout relief program. What about all the rest of the stuff? For example, are you overweight? Is there a history of gout in your family? What medications are you on? Do you drink alcohol to excess (be honest)? Do you know what your body pH levels are?

These, and much more, all have a bearing on how frequent your gout attacks are, and your ability to find a lasting remedy. So you need to address these issues as part of your overall gout remedy strategy as well as looking for short term relief from gout.

My mom is currently going thru chemo for stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer that has metasticized to her bones & lymph nodes. she is a non-smoker. about 3 weeks ago she started to have swelling and pain in both legs & feet. she saw her oncologist who diagnosed cellulitis. put her on Cipro. 3 days went by…nothing. still painful & swollen, my dad took her to the ER on Easter morning. THEY said gout. put her on something else. nothing happened! THEN they said it was BOTH! omg, this is sooo frustrating! they admitted her to the hospital for 4 days to administer IV antibiotics. it helped a little bit. now, the pain & swelling is back, and they’re stumped. they have NO CLUE what it is! she’s seeing her primary dr today, and her oncologist today, later on in the afternoon.
does anyone know what this could possibly be?? i’m scratching my head on this one.
ETA that now they’re saying it’s NOT gout. and it’s no longer cellulitis.
she doesn’t have blood clots, she had some kind of scan for that…and she is overweight a little bit. AND she’s diabetic. they gave her lasix but it didn’t work. hopefully we’ll know something tonight. thanks for all the great info. i will pass this on to my sister, who is going to my mom’s dr appt with her. she can add it to the list of things to ask.

jou e asked:

I have a friend that’s obese and is possibly suffering from gout. I tell him to see the doctor, but he’s too lazy to do it. I want to get my friend into shape. I will drop by his house 5 days a week to coach him if I have to. I will yell at him, make him do push ups, sit ups, and jogging.

I want this guy to stop being lazy. I want him to take control of his health. Playing video games and eating junk every day will destroy him.

Anyone have advice on how to handle the situation? Will I destroy our friendship? The guy is like my little brother.

gigadestroyer asked:

My boyfriend’s recently gotten a gout infection on the heel of his right foot. It’s greatly diminished his ability to walk around, he’s been bedridden all day. I really want to help him out with the pain, but I don’t know what I can do. Are there any creams or homeopathic remedies I could try that would make him feel better?

I found this website called cureyourgout.com that says you can cure gout with grocery items. However, they want $20 to know what the items are. Sadly, I don’t have $20 to my name.

I’m genuinely concerned about him. He’s a prideful man and I don’t think he’ll let me know how much pain he’s really in. I’ve at least managed to scare him to the point where he won’t leave bed because I’ll yell at him. I’m nearly positive that walking around on it isn’t a good remedy.

So, please, if anyone has any suggestions as to what might lower the pain, it would be amazingly helpful.

Oh, and lest me forget, he’s a heart x-plant, so aspirin and most blood thinners are out of the question. I really want to help him get better as soon as possible

I am having my second case of gout but do not have anyone to talk to about what to expect. I’ve read the medical descriptions but those do not talk about the day to day issues of real life experience during outbreaks.I also have heard or read all about remedies and preventions. I know it hurts and usually is hereditory, and all about meats, fats, cherries, etc.

What I want to know are personal stories with details. If you have gout, please tell me what it is like for you. How long, the appearance, the process, also about your skin, joints, etc.

An example: Mine is in my big toe, but I also have crystals emerging from a place on my outer ear which has been going on for much longer.

My toe looked as if was getting pus but when I moved my skin to expel it, there was no pus at all. A large cap of dead skin popped off to reveal tender red underneath.

Any similar stories out there from personal experience?

rainbow asked:

I’m a 45 year old female and have had a red sore on my right big toe for about 6 weeks now. The sore is like a bruise, never has been too painful, but does hurt to walk on it like I am pressing on a bruise. The sore is on the inside of my toe right beside the cuticle. It won’t go away. I haven’t been to the doctor because I thought it was just a sore that would get better… And I just don’t want to hear I have gout. I have not been through menopause and I just thought it rare for women to get it. Also, because my mind is obsessing on this, all my joints have been hurting, especially my hips and fingers.
Any thoughts?
